Scientists: Red Meat Triggers Cancer-Causing Immune Reaction

For years, doctors have warned about the correlation between red meat and disease. Now scientists at the University of California claim they may have discovered the reason red meat consumption can lead to cancer.
It appears that pork, beef, and lamb contain a sugar that is naturally produced by carnivores but not humans. When humans ingest red meat, our bodies are unfamiliar with the sugar and it triggers an immune response that can lead to inflammation and eventually cancer.
This research may provide insight as to why red meat causes other diseases as well. According to Dr. Ajit Varki, “This work may also help explain potential connections of red meat consumption to other diseases exacerbated by chronic inflammation, such as atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes.
