The ‘Voice for the Voiceless’ Rally shed light on the cruel reality of factory farming and called for compassionate food choices
NEW DELHI – In a powerful display of unity, hundreds of students from the University of Delhi participated in a historic rally on World Animal Day. The rally, themed “Voice for the Voiceless” and led by Mercy for Animals India and Hansraj College, highlighted the suffering and cruelty animals raised for food endure and urged people to rethink their food choices and adopt a compassionate lifestyle.
The rally started at 1 PM from Hansraj College and proceeded through neighboring colleges, including Kirori Mal College, Ramjas College and Arts Faculty before returning to Hansraj. Participants dressed in Mercy for Animals t-shirts and animal costumes carried banners and placards and distributed informational leaflets to raise awareness about the harsh realities of factory farming.
“As we march to give a voice to the voiceless, we reaffirm that all lives matter, human and animal,” said Niharika Kapoor, Organising Coordinator Mercy For Animals. “Every animal deserves to live a pain and cruelty-free life, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure they are treated with the respect and dignity they inherently deserve” she added.
Discussing the rally’s objectives Raj Shekhar, President Haritima, Hansraj College, stated,“ We hope the rally inspires young people to become advocates for animal rights and environmental sustainability. By highlighting the plight of farmed animals, we aim to foster a sense of responsibility towards encouraging meaningful action.”
Mercy for Animals India urges consumers, policymakers, and the food industry to embrace plant-based food. Transitioning to plant-based foods not only reduces the cruelty animals are subjected to but also leads to more sustainable and environmentally friendly outcomes.
