Animals in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath Receive Urgent Relief from Mercy For Animals Team Member and Volunteers

The town of Joshimath, high on the slopes of the Himalayas, is sinking. Many fear that not only this town but settlements around it could be wiped out. People are being evacuated, and governments are looking desperately for safe ground to place residents temporarily. Families are separated, and farmed and companion animals are being left behind as people flee to safety. Many small businesses have closed or are in the process of closing. The future is dark and uncertain, with residents saying they are unsure how long it will take for the earth to swallow their hometown.

In the midst of this crisis, Mercy For Animals India Foundation team member Niharika Kapoor rushed to Joshimath to help the people and animals of the community.

Kapoor helped Joshimath residents secure a month’s supply of food for their cows and dogs, which will decrease the chances that the animals will go hungry. She also runs Our Faith, a public charitable trust in Dehradun.
