Animals in Uttarkhand’s Joshimath Receive Urgent Relief From Mercy For Animals’ Team Member And Volunteers

The town of Joshimath, at 1,874 metres high on the slopes of the Himalayas, is sinking. It is feared that not only this town but many settlements around could be in danger of being wiped out. People are being evacuated and governments are looking desperately for safe ground where they could be shifted temporarily. Families are segregated, and pets and cattle remain unattended as people move out to safety. Many small businesses have shut shop or are in the process of doing so. The future looms dark and uncertain with residents saying they are not sure how long it will take for the earth to swallow their hometown.

In the midst of such uncertainty, Mercy For Animals India Foundation’s team member Niharika Kapoor rushed to Joshimath to provide the much needed relief to the people, their pets and community animals.

Niharika helped Joshimath residents secure fodder for their cattle and pet supplies for their dogs for over a month, which would decrease any chances of the pets remaining hungry. Niharika also runs ‘Our Faith’, a public charitable trust, located in Dehradun.
