Mercy For Animals India and Animals With Humanity collaborated to screen the award-winning documentary ‘Maa Ka Doodh’ in Bhopal. The event captivated a diverse audience, prompting them to evaluate their food choices and delve into the harsh realities of the dairy industry, all while aligning with the spirit of Earth Day.
“As we approach the Earth Day, we must recognize the significant environmental repercussions of our food choices,” said Niharika Kapoor, organising coordinator for Mercy For Animals India. “Food systems contribute at least one-third of global greenhouse emissions, with industrial animal agriculture responsible for 20%. By embracing dairy-free alternatives, we can reduce our ecological footprint and pave the way for a more sustainable future.”
‘Maa Ka Doodh’ is an eye-opening, poignant exploration of the dairy industry’s hidden truths, shedding light on the suffering of buffaloes and cows and the environmental impact of dairy production. The screening drew an impressive turnout, with participants engaging in discussions of the intersections of animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and personal health.
To promote awareness and offer alternatives, the event concluded with a vegan lunch and distribution of leaflets detailing the dairy industry’s negative impacts and highlighting dairy-free options. Kapoor emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in dairy consumption, advocating sustainable agriculture and animal welfare.
